The Magnolia Company
In the 1800's, Jeremiah Underhill came to Florida as a farmer. From that time forward, our family has had a rich history of working the land, developing over the years a passion for growing quality foliage. Today, six consecutive generations of our family have farmed in the little community of Barberville that we call home.
In 1936, we started growing and supplying cut foliage to wholesale florists throughout the country. Years later through sheer hard work and a strong trust in the Lord created a successful enterprise.
We at The Magnolia Company desire to continually expand upon our rich heritage of producing very high quality products through creativity, ingenuity and old-fashioned hard work. Being firmly rooted in these principles, we look forward to serving you in this tradition.
Product Care
Unlike all other fresh cut decorations, instead of dying the Garland Farm’s garlands and wreaths will be drying. The leaves are alive and are transpiring the water that is left in the stems. Once we harvest the stems from our farm, we have cut off the leaves water supply, but they continue to use up the remaining amount of water until they dry out. Cooler conditions slow the leaves transpiration rates and this is why the drying sequence is prolonged.
Below are conditional responses that our magnolia garlands and wreaths exhibit under different levels of sunlight exposure. To extend the life of our products, our decorations should always be displayed in a moisture-free environment.
Out of direct sunlight, the green leaves will stay a light green color fading to a pastel green as time progresses.
In direct sunlight the green side of the leaves will change to sandstone brown and then to rusty brown over time.
The Drying Sequence
In cold environments - single digits (Fahrenheit) – six to eight week drying cycle. No problems with freezing.
In cool environments (around 60 degrees F). Four to six week drying cycle.
In warm humid environments (around 78 degrees F). Three week drying cycle.
In warm dry conditions (indoor with the heater blasting)– Ten to fourteen day drying cycle. Because our products are made primarily from broad leaf evergreens the drying sequence is most notable in this setting.
